Chiropractical: The Intersection of Chiropractic and Mental Health

A patient's mental health is just as important, if not more, as their physical health, especially in times of crisis. With 41% of the population currently reporting an increase in mental health issues due to the pandemic, it's an important time to shed some light on the topic.

But, as the pandemic continues to impact our everyday lives, how much responsibility does a chiropractor have when it comes to recognizing the mental health of their patients? A lot, says Dr. Kristina Petrocco-Napuli, assistant dean at the College of Chiropractic at Logan University.

“When our patients come in and they're seeking care from us as a provider, we need to make sure that we have a really good perspective of what is going on in their entire life, whether it's physical, behavioral or mental,” she said. “All of that then translates back to how they respond to our care and what the outcome may look like.

In the next episode of Chiropractical, you’ll hear from Dr. Petrocco-Napuli, along with NCMIC’s Chick Herbert, senior vice-president of enterprise organizational development; Melissa Knutson, senior vice-president of insurance operations; and Mike Whitmer, vice-president of chiropractic insurance programs, as they discuss the scope of treatment for a patient and how to recognize when to intervene.
