What Types of Insurance Should You Consider?

The following checklists outline the key insurance policies that every chiropractor, naturopath, and independent contractor should consider. Whether you’re just starting your practice or you’ve been in business for years, these policies will help you safeguard your livelihood and the health of your practice.

If You Own Your Practice

Owning a practice comes with significant responsibilities. Below are the types of business insurance you should consider as a practice owner. Keep in mind that your specific situation may require additional coverage, so always discuss your needs with one of our experienced agents.

  • This combines both property and liability coverage and may be a cost-effective choice for your practice.

  • If patient data is jeopardized, this insurance policy may cover both electronic and paper records.

  • State law may require you to have this type of insurance if you have hired a receptionist, office manager or other employee.

  • This provides coverage if you are sued for wrongful termination, sexual harassment, discrimination, violation of the Family Medical Leave Act and more.

  • You may want this insurance if you are reselling or labeling supplements or other health products.

If You're an Independent Contractor

Independent contractors (e.g., professionals working in multiple locations or providing services as a consultant) still need to make sure they have coverage. Below are the key insurance policies to consider, but remember, your specific circumstances may require additional coverage.

  • If you own your own table, store your patient data you may need property insurance to protect against damage to a computer or loss of business income.

  • These may be important for additional protection, especially if you are sued for slips and falls, libel, slander, or advertising misprints.

  • If you drive your personal car for work, determine if a personal auto insurance policy is best or if you need a business auto policy.
