Diversifying? Here's What You Should Consider

Many D.C.s are getting additional licenses or bringing in other healthcare professionals into their practices. Here are some important things to consider with your malpractice insurance coverage if you decide to do so.

Q: I’m considering diversifying my practice by bringing in other licensed healthcare professionals into my practice. What should I consider with my coverage?

A: Many D.C.s are bringing in other professionals into their practices or getting additional licenses. Here are some important things to consider with your malpractice insurance coverage if you do.

Chiropractic Assistants, Massage Therapists, Nurses and Others

As long as they are employees and under the supervision of a licensed chiropractor, NCMIC’s Malpractice Insurance Plan provides coverage for chiropractic assistants (whether registered, certified, licensed or unlicensed), massage therapists (licensed or unlicensed), RNs and LPNs, as well as any unlicensed ancillary personnel.

These employees would share in the limit of liability listed on your declarations page. In Connecticut and Kansas, an additional application is required and only separate limits are available for an additional charge.

Dual License Coverage for D.C.s

If you hold an additional license as a naturopathic physician or acupuncturist, you can be covered under the same policy for both licenses for a nominal additional premium.

No additional premium is charged for D.C.s who maintain an additional license as a physical therapist or massage therapist. (Dual license coverage for physical therapy is not available in Maine.)

Other Licensed Professionals

If you are bringing other licensed professionals into your practice, such as a licensed acupuncturist or a licensed physical therapist, make sure they maintain their own individual malpractice insurance with limits of liability equal to or greater than yours.

Flexibility for the Way You Practice

NCMIC offers a variety of additional coverages, allowing you to customize your protection for the way you practice now and in the future. Find out more today
