3 Things Every Chiropractor Should Do to Avoid Burnout
It's an alarming statistic, 1 in 3 chiropractors has considered leaving the profession due to burnout. Why is this percentage so high, and more importantly, how do we reduce it?
On this episode of Chiropractical, Host Jon Kec is joined by Dr. Mario Fucinari, a chiropractor of over 35 years and sought-after national speaker, who will share his insights on the three things every chiropractor should do to avoid burnout.
Reconnect
- Realign your professional and personal goals to your core values
- Rekindle connections with yourself, your mission, and your loved ones
Make it a habit to regularly check in with yourself and evaluate your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Are you noticing signs of irritability or lack of motivation? Rather than brushing them off, acknowledge these signals as valid and important.
Compartmentalize
- Focus on the task at hand, ensuring presence in the moment
- Make a list, segmenting time for your professional and personal life
Treat your personal time with the same importance and commitment as a business meeting or client appointment. Block off time on your calendar for self-care, hobbies, family, or simply to recharge, just as you would for a critical work obligation. When you consistently make space for your own well-being, you’ll find you’re more focused, productive, and fulfilled in every area of your life.
Be True to Yourself
- Remember your initial passion and purpose
- Realize that it's okay to ask for help
Take time to reconnect with the reason you chose this path in the first place. What excited you about this profession? Revisit the moments that inspired you and the patients you've helped. Keeping your “why” front and center serves as a powerful anchor when the daily grind starts to wear you down.
Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or just need a fresh perspective, reaching out isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of self-awareness. Talk to a trusted colleague, mentor, friend, or mental health professional. Support systems exist for a reason and sometimes, simply sharing your thoughts out loud can bring clarity.
Burnout is a significant challenge that chiropractors face, but with proactive strategies, the chiropractic community can confront burnout head-on and create a healthier, more sustainable path forward.
