When I purchased the chiropractic practice from my father, the office reflected his leadership. Many family photos simply needed to go. The music was still tuned to a radio station and not a playlist. Equipment was old. These were not big things, but together they weren't projecting the vision I had for my practice.

So, I set about making changes.
I asked a friend, who is a photographer, to display his photos in the office. These images capture local attractions and interesting scenery. I think they have added a lot to the office, and so do my patients.
Four of the photos have been purchased, which means the photographer has benefitted. Plus, with the purchases, we get new photos to display, so it keeps our art interesting and fresh.
There are a number of Mennonite patients in the practice who don’t have insurance. Many of them pay with cash and would bring in homemade bread and other household goods as well. Now we allow these items to be available for patients to purchase.
It is another way to support our community.
I made other small changes. We’ve tried to do different things with the lighting to make the office more inviting.
We’ve switched off the radio (Blurred Lines is not an office-appropriate song) and created playlists on Pandora and my iPhone. We have fresh flowers in the waiting room. And, there are plans for a new table to adjust patients.
I also took a look behind the scenes.
While this doesn’t directly benefit our patients, I am transitioning an office space into a break room. We didn’t have one before, and this seems important to continue to foster the team building we’ve begun.
Ultimately, we want everyone to know the practice is under new management. While we embrace the high level of care that was provided before, we want old and new patients alike to understand it’s the little things and we are striving to stay current and be better than ever.
