Additional Benefits & Features
If you are disabled, the DC Long Term Disability Insurance Plan, issued by The Prudential Insurance Company of America (Prudential), can pay you monthly benefits.
But that's not the only feature/benefit of the plan. The plan also offers the following:
Waiver of Premium
While you are receiving disability benefits, the premiums for your DC Long Term Disability Insurance Plan will be waived. (This waiver also applies if you are receiving benefits for a partial disability.)
Survivor Benefit
Your spouse will receive a benefit equal to 6 months of disability payments if you die after you were disabled for at least 90 days and you were receiving or eligible to receive benefits under the plan. If your spouse is no longer living, this Survivor Benefit will be paid to your children under the age of 25. (If you have no eligible survivors, payment will be made to your estate.)
Continuous Disability Benefit
If your disability stops for 30 consecutive days or less during your Elimination Period, you will not have to start the Elimination Period over when the disability starts again. (The days that you were not disabled do not count toward your Elimination Period.)
Recurrent Disability Benefit
Too often, disabilities are recurring. If this happens to you, we want to make sure you receive monthly benefits as soon as possible. You will not be required to satisfy another Elimination Period before receiving benefits, as long as you were continuously insured under the plan and the recurring disability occurs within 6 months of the end of your prior claim.
Worksite Modification Benefits
Changes to your workplace may be necessary to help you return to work. Under this benefit, Prudential will work with your employer to facilitate any changes and provide reimbursement for the changes.
Rehabilitation Services
You may qualify for a rehabilitation program paid for by Prudential. Program services vary; each one will be geared to your individual needs and designed to help you return to work.
Catastrophic Disability Benefit
If you suffer a catastrophic disability, you may be eligible to receive an additional 20% of your monthly benefit amount.*
Extension of Benefits
You may be eligible to receive monthly benefits for an additional 5 years, in the case of a severe disability.*
