NCMIC's Statement on Telemedicine Support
We support our practitioners as they embark upon state-approved telemedicine and other alternative approaches.

Our current environment, as a country and as an industry, is new and different from where we were pre-pandemic. While this is not a position any of us expected to be in, NCMIC has always insured and defended our policyholders based on the scope of practice in the state(s) they are licensed to practice in. That will not change.
In this new and evolving environment, the profession will no doubt have to consider what practice looks like, including the scope of practice and how treatment is provided. As always, you will use clinical judgment (in conjunction with state and national regulations) to make decisions on what is best for your practice and your patients. You may decide that using alternative methods of virtual communication makes the most sense in your practice.
Rest assured, NCMIC will continue to support our practitioners as they embark upon alternative methods, including telehealth and other allowable approaches as part of their practices. We are working diligently to provide you with the information you need to do this in a safe and legal manner, including to our website as they become available. Each state has its own regulations on telemedicine, telehealth, and operational requirements that must be followed.
It is incumbent upon you to stay informed of the ever-changing landscape and understand what your local/state/national guidelines are for treating patients in these unprecedented times. Additionally, if you are considering providing telehealth services, you should check with any insurance carriers whose patients you see to confirm your services will be covered.
Rest assured that your policy with NCMIC will continue to provide coverage to the scope of practice in your state today, tomorrow and always.
