Registration Opens for NCMIC's Battle of the 'Burbs

Lace up your running shoes—registration is now open for NCMIC's popular Battle of the ‘Burbs run. This year's race will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 8 a.m. on the NCMIC campus at 14001 University Ave., Clive.

Battle of the ’Burbs pits suburban communities Clive, Johnson, Urbandale, Waukee and West Des Moines against one another in a competition to earn support for their city’s community foundation. The communities each sponsor the 10K, 5K and Kids Fun Run event with runners designating one city to run for (they can also support all five). The cities’ foundations also raise sponsorship dollars, in addition to the registration fees, which support local nonprofits and community betterment efforts.

“Battle of the ‘Burbs is one of NCMIC’s favorite events of the entire year,” said NCMIC CEO Mike McCoy. “With 100% of registration fees going back to the surrounding communities, it’s not only an opportunity for us to give back, but to have a great time with our neighbors and friends while doing it. We can’t wait to see everyone on August 6.”

Battle of the ‘Burbs is also a favorite among runners, offering views of Clive Lake and the Country Club community. And, with kid-friendly activities, food and beer trucks, it is a fun event for the entire family.

The 2021 Battle of the ‘Burbs run sold out and set a record with 517 runners participating in the races 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run. It raised $$57,570 to support charitable efforts in five of the surrounding suburbs. West Des Moines took home the championship belt for having the most runners supporting their community.

This year, prizes will be awarded to the top runners in each age category for men and women in the 5K and 10K. Deadline to register is Aug. 6. Secure your spot at runsignup.com/battle before it sells out.
